Happy Easter! Again! :) This time of year I am reminded of when the Russian and I first met. I came to Springfield, and it happened to be Orthodox Easter. Mama K had a HUGE dinner for all of their family and friends, there was so much food! She kept coming around with bowls of more stuff, and asking me if I wanted some. I learned quickly to just shake my head, because that would result in just one spoonful being plopped on my plate...otherwise you'd end up with a giant pile of whatever it was. She's a good Russian mama :)
We had a great day today. Carl and I assisted some other Helping Hands folk and moved a family in our church from one side of town to the middle. 2 20' U-Hauls and many sore muscles later, we were done. We had 7 helpers from church show up, and it went much faster (and easier!) than I had thought it would. Praise God we had no injuries and I think everyone had a good time helping someone else. It's a nice feeling knowing that tonight someone is going to sleep in a new house for the first time (with a dry basement). :) Now I just hope and pray we can all move tomorrow.
Tomorrow will once again bring a huge dinner at Carl's parents, complete with lamb and ham and every imaginable side dish (can you tell I'm hungry?). I'm planning on going to early church and then heading over to help Mama K get ready for everyone. If there's a problem with the message board it'll have to wait until we get home tomorrow evening, but I don't anticipate anything going wrong, then again, I never do ;)
I did see Jane's performing at the NME awards, I thought they all looked fabulous and sober, and if Stephen Perkins wasn't the happiest guy on the planet at the moment they received their award, I don't know who was. He looked positively giddy! Anyway, I think it was fairly obvious to anyone who watched that the magic is still there. I really, REALLY hope they can stand each other long enough to at least put together a set for Lolla. I was listening to Ethel yesterday and I think it was Kane who said that he'd be surprised if that doesn't happen. I'm just trying not to get my hopes into the stratosphere.
That is all, I'm still trying to decide if I want to go to midnight church tonight. The Russian is working, so I'm on my own. Do I go, knowing I won't get home until 4, knowing I have to get up at 7 to be at our church at 8?
Yeah, we felt the earthquake.
I thought a train had derailed. Carl said "I thought a train derailment would be louder". I waited for sirens and fell back asleep. Looks like 3 solid aftershocks over 2.0 so far. Kind of cool. :) Called my Mom at 6 to see how she was fairing, she said "what earthquake?". Go figure.
Still no word from DCFS, still not impatient about it.
I think we're headed to see Expelled tonight.
I need new shapes to make with my Rubiks snake. Any suggestions?
Went home for lunch, we have our foster care license! :)
Let the fun begin!
Mid-week check-in. Still waiting on DCFS to call. At this point I don't know if we're licensed or not, or if our paperwork is sitting on someone's desk somewhere. I'm ok with this...we still don't have the crib put together!
(can you say procrastinate?)
Actually, it's difficult to plan for a child coming into your home when you don't know #1 boy or girl, #2 age or #3 size. I don't know if we need the crib to be set up as a crib, toddler bed or something bigger. I don't know if we need diapers or pullups, or what size of anything else. Do we need bottles or sippy cups? Let alone stuff like carseats, clothing, age appropriate toys? I'm still excited, tho...just planning on a huge shopping trip all in one day. LOL
So by now, some of you are bound to have heard me screaming about the Jane's Addiction reunion next week at the NME awards. Normally I'd feel obligated to scorn these awards as just stupid, but if they can get ma boys back together, I think I'll have to watch. Rumors are rampant about a possible Lolla appearance. I have doubts that they can all get along for 3.5 months. Hard as it is for me to say, I really hope they don't try to come out with any new stuff. I have a difficult time thinking that the magic is still really there. Maybe I'm just pessimistic. This is the greatest band of all time, after all. :) Anyway, please Perry, don't play against MGMT. I really want to see them.
Hotel. check
Train tickets. check
Concert tickets. check
Lineup. CHECK!
Schedule. No check yet.
Of course, at this point it's all speculation until the Lolla schedule comes out sometime in June, but I'm hoping to see:
Radiohead
NIN
Rage
Wilco
The Raconteurs (hoping to hear a lot of their new stuff)
Love and Rockets
Bloc Party
Broken Social Scene
Flogging Molly
The National
Gogol Bordello
CSS (since they were on the lineup last year and didn't make it due to an airline fiasco)
Battles
Spank Rock
The Go! Team
Yeasayer
MGMT
The Weakerthans
The Ting Tings
Office
The Cool Kids
Does It Offend You, Yeah?
Manchester Orchestra
Foals
De Novo Dahl
Now, we all know that the schedule is probably going to make at least some of this impossible, and thus begins the prioritizing. Without a doubt, I will see MGMT (unless they're playing opposite Radiohead, which is very unlikely). I know their live show supposedly isn't that great, but I still want to see them. I'd like to see Rage, although hopefully from the side of the hill. Carl wants to avoid actually being in the middle of the riot. The chances are good that we'll start that set out on the opposite end of the park and then come up on the tail end of Rage just to see what happens.
Anyway, I'm really happy with the lineup for the most part. I wish there was a more solid middle set, and I'm really disappointed to not see the Chemical Brothers on this list (and the lack of Portishead is sad), but overall I think Lolla is going to be a good time this year. They really pulled out some great headliners! And frankly, I couldn't be more thrilled to see that Jack Johnson is NOT coming. I'll admit to being a little curious about whether Perry is going to drag the Satellite Party onto the kids stage, tho. I don't see them listed anywhere, but we don't have the entire list yet, there are still another 25 bands left to go! Wheeeeeeee!
In other news, we're still waiting for our foster care license to be completed. We finally bought a crib last week, and my Mom convinced me to buy some mattress protectors this weekend, but that's about it. I'm hoping to pick up a monitor this week.
I think that's it. It's been quiet lately.
