Pillowcases

So, the SE survey blog has been removed. I was really crabby when I wrote it, mostly frustrated about the entire experience, and I expected better things from Viking. However, that probably doesn't all need to be spelled out here.

I worked on a pillowcase last night. I started making them a few months ago to include in my packages to Joshua (the soldier Carl and I "adopted" in February. I still haven't heard from him, btw). I've sent a couple to him, my favorite was a 3 stooges theme. The ones I'm making now are just obnoxiously patriotic, I'm hoping to get them done pretty quickly and then drop them in the mail. I also clipped the jump threads on the dish towel we made Monday night. We used ultra solvy on them, first time experience for me. I soaked it last night and was pleased with the results, it came out ok. I think I'll put the towel away and get it back out for Christmas. Or maybe...I should keep it out for Christmas in July :)

It looks like we're having Thanksgiving in June this weekend. The Russian wants another turkey. I'm headed down to my Mom's on Sunday for a couple of days, and then will be home for the 4th.

That's about it for now.

The Coolest Thing

Yesterday at church there was a young lady in the front row, someone I'd never seen before. This isn't unusual in itself, we go to a pretty big church and there are lots of people I haven't met, yet. Our pastor mentioned that she was getting ready to leave for Iraq and reminded us to pray for her while she was gone. After the service I went to go talk to her to let her know about the cool ties and to see if there was anything she needed. I was really excited to get to talk to a "real live soldier" to get some feedback.

I waited while some other people finished talking to her and I heard her mention "Delavan", which is an area up by Peoria where the National Guard troops deploy out of. I knew this because I've had emails from a lady with Soldiers Angels that's from that area, she asks for cool ties occasionally, and I send them. So I started to get a little more excited when I heard her say "Delavan".

I finally got the chance to talk to her and said something like "You may have heard about this already, but there are a group of us here at Cherry Hills that are making cool ties for the troops". She got really excited and said "I have one in my pocket!" and proceeded to pull it out. Sure enough, it was one from our group, complete with the project tag and everything. I was completely stunned, I couldn't believe it. She said they got these little care bags when they got to Delavan, and these were in the bags. Nobody knew what they were, so they tried them out and now they're already using them in Indiana, where they haven't had air conditioning for the last couple of months. It was so good to FINALLY meet someone who'd gotten one of my cool ties. And they're working! I think I was on cloud 9 for the rest of the day.

Otherwise, a pretty quiet weekend for us. My mom came to town, we putzed around in the little Jeep and got pedicures. Yesterday we went fleece shopping and I picked up another 8 yards. Very slow going on the accumulating...I've still got my fingers crossed that more prints will come out that are appropriate. That's about it.

Fun Car Week

Back by popular demand, it's fun links day! Don't say I never let you have any fun...

Easy Mac Micro Maniac
Click on Christmas Lights, wheeeee!

Home Page One of my favorite Christmas Lights planning sites. And they have their own radio station that plays Christmas tunes year round! Who could ask for more...? :)

And, as long as we're talking about Christmas, I can't leave out Organized Christmas. Planning & organizing Christmas holidays - - OrganizedChristmas.Com

That should keep you busy for a little while, at least...

Rode the motorcycle to work this morning. No problems, ran great, had a blast. No close calls, no idiots. Perfect morning ride :) Lunchtime should be interesting, I'll probably head to Panera with the laptop and surf for awhile.

Thursday

The Russian is hooked on Sudoku. Ha! It all started last week when we were at the Carillon Festival (the tower is 132', btw). He was bored while we were waiting for it to get dark, so I gave him my puzzle books and I think 15 minutes was all it took. :) I continue to hone my Minesweeper skills, but it still takes me longer to finish the medium puzzle than I would like.

And, just so you don't think that mind puzzles are all we do, it's been a busy week of cleaning the Kimble house. Haven't gotten much sewing done, I'm to the labeling point on a bunch of cool ties, so I try to work on that before work each day. Haven't bought anymore fleece yet, I need to take a trip to Joanns this weekend and see if they have anything new. I'd really like to find some smaller prints to work with this fall.

Otherwise, things are going as usual. Nothing new to report. My mother is coming into town this weekend (hence the cleanup effort), we're thinking about taking the train to Lincoln for a little downtown shopping, and then might look around downtown Spfld if anything is open.

That is all. :)

And that's the news

At home, playing with my new keyboard before a meeting. Takes some getting used to, the enter key is just not quite where I expect it to be. I suppose I'll survive...it does light up with a really cool blue color ;)

Is it Friday yet? This week is dragging on and on and it's only Tuesday. And I know this is going to sound bad, but I'm getting tired of listening to all of the Paris jokes. Yeah, she's in jail, and of course she's upset about it, but that doesn't give us all a license to be cruel and make fun of her. She got a tougher sentence than anyone else in her predicament would have gotten, and she's been locked up. Nobody needs to be joking about who her "girlfriend" in jail is going to be. A bunch of 12 year olds, I swear.

I'm more concerned about certain people getting 3 years for manslaughter than I am what Paris is going to do when she gets out.

Anyway. Big news in Springtucky today includes: heroin overdose-ee is arrested on the east side, lsd, "magic mushrooms" and heroin found in the house. No, I didn't know the guy. Legislators and Guv Hair-do are still fighting out the budget, only there's not much actual talking happening, mostly just the guv whining that nobody is working (hello, pot, this is kettle! I hear you been talkin' 'bout me, yo!). Last, but certainly not least (well, ok, maybe), the a/c is out at the public library downtown. No word on how the homeless who are living there feel about it just yet. I'm sure they'll weigh in tomorrow.

And there you have it, folks, the latest from the big town of Springpatch, Illinois. ;)

Friday Night

We're home from the International Carillon Festival and fireworks. We had a nice time sitting in the rose garden at Washington Park, chatting and relaxing and listening to the carillon. Coming from a town that only had fireworks on the fourth of July every year when I was a kid, it's nice to live somewhere that has them at the drop of a hat.

Tomorrow is a busy day around here. I'll go to the farmers market in the morning for produce and pastries, then we're headed to the youth auction at Cherry Hills, then another auction in Cantrell or somewhere for woodworking tools. I'd like to see Knocked Up tomorrow night, but we'll see. Oh, and there was another sale in there somewhere, I think.

I'm glad this week is over. Paris is back in jail, the weather is nice, Bill O'Reilly is on, it's a beautiful world. ;)

Interesting Links

Just because it's Friday, here are a couple links I've hit today.

My new keyboard is clear and lights up *claps*

Had to get a new soundcard last night, too. Color me broke. However, my pc rocks! And the sub works great, it vibrates my feet, which is really what it's all about...

Anyway, on with the show!

You know those motivational posters some offices hang up in the hopes of creating a sanctuary of positive vibes and productivity? Well, somebody else came up with the real story. Our last network guy had a bunch of these. My favorites are: Apathy, Cluelessness and Motivation. All Designs

These are fun, simple games. Orisinal : Morning Sunshine

A depressing moment of silence

Listening to Alec Ounsworth - Everybody Knows this is Nowhere. This has to be the most depressing song I've ever heard. However, I can't seem to hit fast forward, so I guess I'll just wait for it to end. Definitely wailing music. Could be useful if you live in an apartment and want to aggravate your neighbors, not that I'm condoning that or anything, natch. ;)

I didn't get a whole lot accomplished last night. I went for a bike ride, had some trouble in front of the power plant, it's idling weird. The Russian says it sounds like the carbs need to be reworked, again. :( Hoping it doesn't take 3 weeks...it's supposed to be gorgeous this weekend and I want to ride!

We need to have a moment of silence for the Gateway keyboard. This is a keyboard I got with my first pc, in 1997. It died last night. As did my wireless mouse and the speakers hooked up (not to the gateway...I'm not sure whatever happened to that machine, I think I gave it away) to it. So today's lunch excursion will involve a trip to Best Buy for new toys. I'm thinking the super subwoofers are going to beckon me beyond my ability to say no. :) I need something really loud, this computer is in the basement next to my quilting frame, and I don't like to be interrupted when I'm down there. If it's loud enough that I can't hear the phone ringing, that's good. Anyway. Goodbye, good and faithful keyboard...it was fun while it lasted. :)

What To Do

So it's after 5, I'm on my way home in a minute, the Russian is at a meeting until at least 8 or 9. I'm thinking bike ride, followed by sewing. Sounds good :)

We had lunch courtesy of WQLZ 92.7 today. Cliffie sent them an email and told them what a hard-working bunch we are, and then they showed up on a day when half the office was at a user's group meeting. Woohoo!

Wind advisory tomorrow, gusting up to 50mph, which isn't that bad for us but will be bad enough. The joy of living in the plains.

Ozzfest tickets come out in 6 days. I talked to the guy from QLZ and he said it doesn't look like they're going to have tickets this year due to the way they're being distributed...so we're on our own. Hopefully between Carl and I we can get at least one set.

Outta!

Dog Wash

We took the dogs to the dog wash this afternoon for baths, what a hoot! They even have a dryer, and the place is all enclosed, so will be a great option this winter. I think even Ralf kind of liked it, maybe a little bit. They even have an option for "skunk odor remover". I don't want to know why that's there...I've never seen a skunk in our neighborhood. I kept looking for the hot wax option. :)

I sewed at church yesterday, working on more cool ties. I took 272 to work on, I'm not sure exactly how many got finished all the way, but we started on 200 of them. I'm hoping to finish them all up this week and get them in the mail.

I need a nap. Isn't that what Sundays are for?
