Waiting Game

This is one of those days where I wait for people to call me back, and they never do. *drums fingers*

It's been a relatively quiet week at the casa de Kimble. The Russian has spent most of it working on the door for the playhouse. I think it's going to turn out really cool...it's kind of gothic (well, gothic for Baptists, anyway). Big auction in Jacksonville tomorrow, they have some super Shopsmith thing for sale, or so I'm told.

I'm leaving for my mom's tonight after work. Gotta go home, pack the suitcase (always left until the last minute), pack up the cat stuff and I'll be on my way. Is it too early to drag out the Christmas cds? :)

The Russian surprised me this morning with an anniversary gift (3 days early, if anyone's counting): a pumpkin dremel tool kit! It even comes with templates, so I can have the most smashing-worthy pumpkin around (you locals don't get any ideas, mmkay?)! We'll have to go pick out our pumpkins next weekend so I can get started on them. I've never carved a pumpkin (well, except for when I was little, which doesn't count, because it's not like anybody would let me hold a knife then!). I'm preparing for a giant mess and a not altogether successful first try. Maybe I should buy a couple of practice pumpkins. The Russian is afraid that we'll start having trick-or-treaters if I set out any jack-o-lanterns, but I'm maintaining that the dogs will pretty much keep them away. That, and the fact that 1. there are no small children in our neighborhood, 2. we turn the lights off and retreat to the basement on halloween and 3. we should have enough good karma from dealing with all the bratty tot'ers when we lived in town that would come through more than TWICE with NO costume. I should take some pictures of the kittens with a couple of pumpkins.

Going to the quilt shop today at lunch to pick up my shop hop ticket. I can't believe it's just 2 weeks away! Yay! It's almost time for me to start getting the addresses loaded into the gps and to figure out the route. I'm considering splitting the trip over 3 of the 4 days, just to drag it out a little bit. Last year I did it in a day and a half, and I think I was the first person to finish. Since I'll be in Bloomington for that, I might take that day and do just the 4 shops in that area and spend the rest of the time doing regular shopping there.

Let's see, we did have a bit of excitement (bad) from Kenny this week. Wednesday night I noticed he had some blood in his urine, so panicked and called vet first thing Thursday. She says she thinks he's fine, gave me an antibiotic (clavamox) and said to come back Monday if he's not better. He seems to be, I haven't seen anymore blood, but getting a dropper full of medicine down his throat is easier said than done. He's 8.5 pounds of solid muscle who does NOT like antibiotics. And then there's Vic, who spends the whole time trying to climb me so he can see what's going on. They are still the sweetest kittens...they want to be lap cats. :)

Anybody know of free wifi in H-burg? Library? My mom is laptop shopping and I'm wondering if she'd be able to use it much there.

Happy Friday :) And better yet, happy October! Woohoo! Fall is here!

Happy Tuesday! Not quite as sleepy as I was yesterday.

Catchup: gas prices are down to $1.97, my mom was here for the weekend, new church had grand opening, the Russian is still working on the playhouse, I have a new garden window for the kitchen, another Rudolph day (25th of the month) has come and gone, went shopping over the weekend, it's FALL!!! Despite surveys indicating that it's unacceptable, my coworkers still insist on listening to voicemail on speakerphone.

The darkroom door is one more step closer to being installed, but I want to do some updates in the dr before it goes in. I'd like to have a new countertop, maybe masonite or something. I don't think they make formica that deep. Anyway, new countertops, another set of shelves for chemicals and equipment, and maybe a touchup of the paint, although that can be done anytime. And I'm definitely going to need an exhaust fan once that door goes in.

I'm thinking about going to my mom's next weekend. The one after that is the candlelight in the park thing at New Salem, and I hate to miss it. The 2 weeks after that are the shop hop, and I've already got plans for that. The following week will probably be Rod's halloween party if he's having one this year. First weekend in November I'll be back to my mom's for the crap show at the college and Christmas open houses. I think there's a festival of some kind going on every weekend between now and January. Still need to get our pumpkins, maybe next weekend. I hate to decorate for fall before October.

I think that's it for the update. OH! Gottadeal has opened up their Black Friday forum again, still waiting for the first ads to be posted, although Ace Hardware has rumors out. I'll wait to formulate my BF plans until I see actual scans, of course :)

You Know It's Cold When

I show up at work with socks AND shoes. :)

The Russian has been complaining about no new blogs, so here I am. Of course, he's out of the office today at an auction, so he won't see it until tomorrow.

Let's see...the last couple of weeks: had a birthday, old church closed, Carl's Aunt Eileen died, new church opened, started new sewing projects, got new pda stuff. That's about it.

The birthday was fine, I'm 33 now. So far so good. I got pretty good loot, including a gift certificate to my favorite quilt shop. The shop hop is coming up in October, so I'm sure I'll find something good to spend it on during that.

Last night the Russian pulled down the border in our master bed and bath! Yay! All of the bedrooms are getting painted this fall, finally. My mom is bringing me a garden window for the kitchen this weekend. I'm making plans for what to put in it...mostly my african violets, they really need a new home.

My venus flytrap isn't doing so hot, I think it's technically still alive, but not by much.

Is it too soon to switch out the closets to cold weather clothes? I think probably, but I'm so ready for fall! Except for that leaf raking part...

<100 days until Christmas! :)

One thing, and then another

Happy Sunday :)

Went to early church this morning, then for a ride around the lake on the VTR. It's feeling better to me now, however, it appears that the fork seals are leaking. Always something, I guess. Still thinking about a custom paint job this winter. It'd be a lot easier if I could decide on a graphic.

Haven't decided what we're doing today. The Russian wants to go work on the roof of the playhouse, but I'm thinking about finishing up the Christmas quilt and going to pick up a new printer. I'd like to go caching, but too much other stuff to do, as usual. Still playing around with the VTR board. At least the posts are still there! =)

Saturday

I'm at work, working on the vtr board. Backing stuff up to my work pc for now, which takes awhile.

We got up early this morning and drove to Pawnee to pick up the siding for the playhouse. It ended up costing twice what Carl thought it would, and they didn't have the joints for it, or some other pieces he needed, so it looks like another trip next weekend.

Anyway, got back from that and I hit Joanns for their fleece sale. I got probably 25 yards of some really cute solids and prints and will get started making hats, scarves and mittens for Feitshans asap, maybe Monday after I get back from shopping with Mama K.

After Joanns, I went on to Penneys to look at lamps. I really want a Frank Lloyd Wright style lamp for our foyer table, but the one they had wouldn't really look right with the table (marble). Tried on some fall clothes, didn't buy anything.

Went home, picked up the motorcycle and went to see the Russian at the new church. He's working on the roof today, almost half done (including the decking). Now I'm at work.
So now you all know what I do on Saturdays. Drive around!

I got several emails asking about the Frito hotdogs that Alice likes so much. They're really easy to make, and are the perfect training treat. Take a regular hotdog, slice it lengthwise in half, then in halves again. Chop those into little tiny pieces, I can get about 60 per hotdog. Microwave for about a minute 30, until they're hard and crunchy (like Fritos!).

Back to work

We've gone to the dogs

I am so bored. The Russian's at the church working on the playhouse. I took Alice out to see him, she got to go for a ride in the little Jeep with the top down. We went through some utility exercises while we were there. She's doing pretty well with it. I still say she's smarter than Ralf. However, her sense of smell is still an embarassment to the world of canines.

I'm trying to get motivated to do something, but it's not working. I think I'm going to Pawnee tomorrow morning with Carl to pick up some siding.

And now, a Friday survey...

1. How many dogs do you have? 2 – Ralf and Alice
2. Are they named after anyone? The Kramdens
3. Has your dog been to a blessing ceremony? No, but I’d like to take them sometime.
4. Do you take your dog on vacation? I have before, surely will again. They like to go camping.
5. Do you let your dog eat off your plate? Nope…no people food.
6. Have you ever hired a pet sitter? Yep.
7. Do you send your dog to doggie daycare? No, it’s too expensive and the bus doesn’t come out this far.
8. Inside or outside? Inside
9. Does your dog have a fancy house? Ralf has a dogloo out back, but I don’t think he’s ever stayed in it for more than 5 minutes.
10. Does your dog sleep on your bed with you? Heh, yeah, sometimes. And she’s a cover hog!
11. Have you ever taken your dogs to an outdoor restaurant? Not unless the McD’s drivethrough counts. I don’t think it’s legal here yet.
12. Go to the dog park regularly? Sometimes
13. Pedigree or mutt? Eh, either. Right now we have mutts. I think my next dog will be AKC, so I can show in regular competitions.
14. Shelter or breeder? Shelter so far. Maybe breeder next time.
15. Obedience school? Both of them have gone through. Alice has had extensive training.
16. Know any stupid pet tricks? Alice can open the bathroom door, open the shower door, get in the tub, turn the water on and stop up the drain go get a drink. She also goes to the bathroom on command.
17. Do you clean up after your dog when you’re out? Religiously
18. Big dogs or little yappers? Big dogs all the way. Little dogs make me nervous.
19. Ever take your dog to work? Yep, both of them
20. Raw diet or bagged food? Bagged. Although I’d like to try raw someday, maybe.
21. Favorite treat? Alice’s favorite is Frito’d hotdogs. Ralf likes anything that tastes like meat. Ha!
22. Does your dog have a toy box? Yeah. I'm still trying to work with her to put her toys away, though.
23. Favorite toy? Alice’s favorite toy is either her hedgehog, or the fart toy. Ralf doesn’t have a favorite, although he likes chewing on Alice’s ears.
24. Does your dog wear a coat in the winter? Yep, and it’s very stylish :P
25. Coordinating leash/collar? Yep
26. Crate train? Alice is crate trained, Ralf is not
27. Do you talk to your dog like he/she’s a person? Yep. And I know it’s totally not productive, but I do it anyway. She tilts her head to the side and talks back.
28. Ever trick your dog? Of course…what would life with a dog be without the fake throw? :)
29. Does your dog like cats? She thinks they might be tasty. Actually, she just likes to sniff and lick them. Every now and then she’ll chase ‘em. Ralf couldn’t care less.
30. Does your dog like other dogs? Loves them. It’s people who try to get between us that she doesn’t like. Ralf likes other dogs as long as they’re altered.
31. Ever thrown a birthday party for your dog? Not yet
32. Ever lied to a hotel about not having a dog in the room? Nope…with over 225 pounds of dog, they’re going to be seen by somebody.
33. Strangest thing that’s ever happened when you’ve had your dog with you? ??? Once I was driving down the interstate in heavy traffic, and Alice had her head out the window. Another car pulled up beside us and started yelling all these questions at me about her. That was kinda freaky…we were doing 80mph!
34. Funniest thing your dog does? Take off running after they go #2. Like they’re sooo happy they just crapped.
35. Ever use your dog to scare someone? Not intentionally.
36. People or dogs? Tough call. Usually dogs.
37. Do you let your dog lick your face? Nope.
38. Be honest, are you really a responsible pet owner? We’re more responsible than a lot of people are with their kids. Yes.
39. Does your dog get carsick? Nope, thank goodness!
40. Do you buy Christmas gifts for your dog? Of course! They have their own tree with special rawhide ornaments. (Yeah. Ask me how long they lasted last year. I think I replaced them 4 times before I gave up.)

better late than...

something.

I'm upgrading the vtr board this weekend, so I'll catch up with emails when I get back to work on Tuesday.

And can I just say, work sucks? I was here late last night working on a problem, thought I had it fixed. Came in late today to make up for it, same problem. It's now 12:20 and I think it's FINALLY done. We had a record month for calls, because they all came in between 4 and 5pm yesterday. Hopefully now I can go back to my usual slacker self. ;)

The Russian is still working on the playhouse, and I've accomplished nothing in the quilt world this week. I did pick up the border for the Christmas quilt, hoping to get it done this weekend. No auction tonight. :( No good sales tomorrow, either.

Carl's aunt Eileen is still in the hospital, looks like we'll go see her either tomorrow or Sunday, probably.

First service at the new church is Sunday night. Excited, am I. :)

I took pics of my new hair color last night and then forgot to bring the card with me today. I'll try to get those loaded this weekend maybe.

In the meantime, life is just peachy, I'm looking forward to a day off, and I put in for the week after Christmas (vacation) again. I've signed up for the shop hop in October, just need to get my ticket and make sure the addresses are still in my gps.

I've been playing around with ELF's drama eye kit, so far so good. Then again, I'm not sure you can really go wrong for $1. Still can't get over that...however, I'm sure I'll still find myself parked at the Bibo counter. There's GOT to be a reason that stuff costs more, right? It can't be that I'm just susceptible to advertising? Haha!

On the prowl for a new bag. I'm thinking about retiring the black DB even though it's not really showing much wear. I wish we had a Coach store nearby. :( I'm not making any trips to STL in the forseeable future.

That is all.
