Sick?

My boy is sick! Apparently he's got a cold :( He actually stayed home from work today, which I don't remember happening before.
This morning I stopped at Meijers and got OJ and tangelos for moi, in the (false) hope that I can avoid getting sick.

Not much other going on other than sucky work.

I did get 2 sets of construction magnets recently, tho. They're pretty nifty :)

And my house is very clean. :)

That is all.

32

I don't feel any older.
Or smarter.
Bummer.

I did get flowers today :)
And I'm the newest member of the Capitol Canine Training Club!
I set my cell phone to play Happy Birthday.

It's not like this puts me into the next age bracket on any surveys...most of them go until 34. So 32 is kind of a boring birthday. I'll probably clean the living room tonight. The blinds need to be vacuumed and the windows should be washed.

The front door looks awesome, btw. Carl really did an excellent job painting it and the trim. It's very bare now...no wreath, no decorations. I need to come up with a basket for the dog stuff.

Everyone should have a featherbed. Well, unless you're allergic, I guess.
I'm shopping for down comforters now.

Labor Day

Holiday! I can sleep in!
Haha

Got up this morning and started cleaning house. Then picked up Carl's mom to go to lunch and shopping. I ended up with 3 blouses, a pair of pants and a jacket. And I got the featherbed! We put it on the bed and made it up, and then decided to test it out...I am not going to want to get up tomorrow morning. I think after we get a new down comforter it will be like sleeping between clouds.

I've been having the most vivid dreams lately! Last night I dreamt that we were at a log cabin, only it was under water. And we could breathe! And some fish kept escaping the fish tanks, and I was trying to catch them for someone. Really odd...one night I dreamed about yarn and knitting. Some of them haven't been too pg-13, so I'll spare you those! I think I should stop eating anything within 2 hours of going to sleep...

Back to work tomorrow. I'm hoping the rest of the week flies by. I'll be 32 on Wednesday. I don't really have any feelings about turning 32. It's not like when I turned 30 and couldn't say I was 20-something anymore. I'm still "early 30's". I think 35 will be a bigger milestone. However, by the time I'm 33, I do have some goals:
Finish the house. Whatever it takes, get the driveway in, get the family room carpeted and be done remodeling.
Clean out the basement. I want to get it to the point that we can use the game room for gaming, and get the reloading room set up.
Have Alice qualify for at least one leg of her agility title. We get voted on at the Capitol Canine Training Center tomorrow night! Wish us luck!
I'm sure there are others, but these are the main ones. Everything is doable, but just takes motivation and time. Lately I've been lacking both.

Saturday we went to St Louis, and I got some photo chemicals from my uncle. After that we went to see a lady about a Shopsmith, and she turned out to be a total flake. She had lied to Carl about the machine, and the parts that she had to go with it. Anyway, after we left there we stopped by Penzeys and had a little sniff of heaven. I got some fancy Vietnamese cinnamon that is absolutely the most wonderful thing I have smelled in a long time. I can't wait to try it out in some recipes. It's very strong. I also stocked up on their Italian salad dressing mix and got some different peppers for Carl to try.

Then we hit Jackmans fabric in Fairview Heights. Wow. What a wonderful store! I found the perfect backing for the Quilt for the Cure quilt I'm making, and got a cute little advent calendar kit for the family room. I also picked up some stabilizer, and Carl gave their quilting tables a good once-over. He thinks he can build one for a lot less than $2000. I showed him the ruler racks like I want, and he came home and made one for me that day! We also picked up a Koala cabinets catalog for him to look at. I'd like to have a different setup for my sewing table. He doesn't think it will be too difficult. We'll see...he also has to come up with a 55-gallon tank stand for me soon. I want to upgrade!

Peppermint Pat is doing just fine. He's mostly hanging out upside down on a rock, which is what he was doing at the fish store, so I guess he's happy.

Yesterday I worked the agility trial out at the fairgrounds. I thought it was really cool...I never knew that basset hounds could compete in agility! What a fun experience! I can't wait to see how Alice takes to it. I want to build some jumps for our backyard and see how well she does at it. She'd be in the 24" height, I think. Should be no problem, she can jump our 36" gates at home. :-/

Current sewing projects:
new pair of capris hopefully before the end of summer (better get started!)
need 2 embroidered aprons for Carl's mom
finish Quilt for the Cure (I'm on block 5 out of 12)
make Mom's bday quilt
work on blocks of the month for Calico Hearts
start Christmas knitting (2 scarves)

Made it!

I made it home from work just fine. Stuck to Wabash all the way to Chatham Road and then from there it was pretty easy. Traffic through town can't move really fast, which works out for me.

Headed to St Louis tomorrow to pick up photo supplies from Uncle Jimmy. Carl is going to look at a Shopsmith a lady has for sale. Fortunately she lives just 3 or 4 miles from Jimmy's.

Going birthday shopping with my Mom-in-law Monday. And the feather bed is in! We're getting it Monday, too. I hope I can wake up on Tuesday....

Sunday I'm working at the dog club's agility trial. This will be my first, hope I don't screw up too badly.

Better go see what Carl's up to!

Holiday Grand Plan

Yes, it's true. I'm planning for Christmas.
I'm doing the HGP through organizedchristmas.com. This week was front porch week, so we:
cleared off the porch
swept it down
swept the walls and ceiling
sprayed for bugs
swept some more
changed the flag to the fall one
pulled the ivy out of the flower bed directly in front of our living room window
and painted the front door.

Next week is living room week.

I rode my bike to work today for the first time in a few years. It wasn't too bad, I snuck through town to avoid the heavy highway traffic. My commute is only 6 miles, but my Honda only gets 22mpg, and the bike (also a Honda, btw) gets almost 60. I need to get a helmet. It was 55 degrees out, and even with a jacket and gloves I was pretty chilly. However, it's supposed to get up to 85 or something today so it'll be nice later. I haven't figured out how I'm going to get home yet. People drive like maniacs here.

Really tired...I was up late last night working on my Quilt for the Cure project. I really hate this pattern. But I'm liking the finished product a little better each time I work on it. The block I'm working on now has 72 pieces.

I need a nap. And some breakfast.
