It's true...we finally got hooked up with some high speed internet. In the end, I just couldn't go with Comcast, mostly because I couldn't find anywhere that someone had anything nice to say about them lately. So we signed up with something called Xanadoo, which uses cellphone towers to spread their signal. It's not as fast as cable, but is probably on par with DSL or something. Anyway, it's miles better than the crummy dial-up we were stuck with (on 45 year old phone lines!). The other nice thing is that if I wanted to go surf in a park or something, I can take our wireless modem and it will work. Not that I anticipate doing that, but I guess it's good to know.
So, to celebrate our new found wirelessness, we now have a shiny new wireless router, and everything is finally, truly networked together. My new laptop plays nicely with everything else, and I can check the weather on my Wii (although I learned very quickly that the weather forecast is not to be trusted).
In other news, the Russian picked up Roscoe, the newest addition to our family, last night. So far he's pretty nuts, his last owners hadn't taught him any manners. Alice tolerates him pretty well, and they both really enjoy chasing each other around the back yard. Right now he's in a crate whining.
This should be enough excitement for one family in any given week, right? Well, yesterday we got a call from DCFS about a baby (2 weeks old)! We're to find out today whether or not he's ours. We're excited about the possibility, but I don't think either of us will be surprised if he goes to another family. We've really been able to put all of this into God's capable hands, and so we're just waiting on Him now. We had an interview with the caseworker last night. I liked her right away, she seems very down to earth and realistic about what life is like for some kids who don't get a great start in life. If you're a prayer, please join us in asking for God's perfect will regarding this little guy's life.
No major plans for the 4th. My Mom is coming to town tomorrow to stay until Monday. We're going to work on cool ties, and look at some houses for her. There's a house down the road from us that's for sale that I want to see as well. 4 acres AND it backs up to the woods! Anyway, we're taking my mother downtown tomorrow night to watch the fireworks over the capital building.
Better get ready for work!
