Okay, due to popular demand I figured I should post this where you all can see it. Those of you on the list are already aware, Carl's mom was diagnosed with colon cancer about 3 weeks ago. She's having surgery tomorrow afternoon to get rid of it. We're told that she'll be in the hospital for about a week and then out of commission at home for 3-4 weeks if everything goes well. We covet your prayers in this situation.
Foster care - We're one visit away from being licensed! We still have a couple of things to do at home to make sure we're really ready, but the light at the end of the tunnel is shining brightly. We were informed that we'll probably get called for a placement the same day that we're licensed. The state of IL is really short on FP's, so if it's something you've been thinking about, by all means, do it!
Milford Project - is still going, I think the mechanicals are mostly in place and hopefully work will really be picking up soon. The quilts are still in progress, I'm meeting with a bunch of girls Saturday and will take along the black quilt to see if I can finish that darn Jersey block. It's awful.
Lollapalooza - we've got our reservations for the Travel Lodge by Grant Park. Once again I decided it would be better to give up comfort than to be farther away. I just couldn't see staying at the Congress again. Tickets aren't on sale yet, but I hear they're doing the early bird souvenir tickets differently this year, maybe with a lottery. I'm not sure how I feel about that, after having been a part of last year's early bird fiasco. Maybe our chances will be better with this. Either way, we're going! :) I'm gonna cry if MGMT isn't there.
Darkroom fun - I've been working on a new project for the Russian's dad. He brought me back a box of old negatives from the house in Kansas City. So far they're really funny, lots of fashionable types and old cars and stuff. I'm planning on taking the contact prints to him tomorrow, but I still have a few hundred contacts left to print before I have them all. I made some new prints off an older roll of my own film this weekend. There's still just something addicting about processing my own film/prints.
Work - same old stuff. Nothing new to report here, really.
Hair Show - we'll be back in Nashville for the first weekend in May this year!
I think that's it. Happy Friday!
So, since I've last written, we've set a record high, a record drop in temp, had a tornado warning, blizzard warning and ice storm. That was Wednesday.
Now we have around a foot of snow on the ground with 30mph winds on the way to drift it for us. Sounds like a good day to stay home to me, but drat the work ethic, here I am. I should be out sledding somewhere. Maybe later. I have to admit that the Big Jeep did a fine job of getting me where I needed to go this morning. I still say someone important must live in our neighborhood. I watched 3 snowplows come through last night within an hour of each other. Considering there are only 2 houses on our road that seems a little excessive (not that I'm complaining, natch!).
I had an eye appointment this morning, needed new glasses because once again Alice ate mine. I've been trying to think all week if this was the 3rd or 4th pair, and can't remember. I'm thinking about ordering up one of those black box thingies they put in airplanes to keep them in. I doubt if glasses made out of black box material would be very attractive.
We've scored a hotel room for Lollapalooza, we'll be at the Travelodge by Grant Park this year. I wasn't crazy about staying at the Congress again, and it was a tossup between the TL and the Best Western down the block. Now we just have to wait for tickets to go on sale, and make our train arrangements, and we'll be all set! I can't wait!
Let's see...super Tuesday coming up. The Russian and I aren't seeing eye to eye on who to vote for, but his choices are dwindling fast and I just can't see him voting for Romney. I think we'd both like to vote for Ron Paul, but we need to be honest and admit that he doesn't have a chance. I wish it were otherwise, I think he'd make a great president.
I'm meeting with the quilt girls tomorrow morning, weather permitting. My Mom is supposed to be headed to town for the weekend, she wants to see the Lincoln museum again, and Superbowl Sunday seems like the perfect time for that. We've also got a home show going on at the fairgrounds, but I did hear that Rudy Giuliani is postponing his appearance here, due to weather, of course. I didn't have a ticket but had thought about going just to hear what he had to say. I was kind of hoping that he would announce his support of McCain here, but oh well.
I think that's it for now, January was kind of quiet, as usual. Happy 2008 :)
