Holidays and Things

I hope everyone had a good weekend, and that it was extended with a day off yesterday. I think I had to come back to work so I could rest.

We ended up spending the latter part of the weekend doing yard stuff (and still yet, the yard is not mowed). Carl and the neighbor guy worked on burying a pipe in our front yard so it will drain better, and yesterday Carl planted our new mailbox. He used the laundry pole from our house in town, and I don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon. It's 4" steel pipe buried in 5 gallons (at least) of concrete. But, we have a big mailbox, so maybe we needed that, who knows.

I spent the weekend cleaning out flower beds and planting. We now have 4 little tomato plants, nicely pruned hedges and trees, and a beautiful shade garden in the front yard (if I do say so myself). Mostly I put out begonias and impatiens. Hopefully the squirrels don't come along for a smorgasbord anytime soon.

Friday night we hit a couple of garage sales and had dinner out. Saturday we drove down to Morrisonville and then on to Raymond for auctions. There was a big blacksmith auction in Raymond. Carl got a few things, I got a sunburn. We stopped at the truck stop in Auburn on our way home, and ended up taking a little detour through their antique barns. I got a couple of ideas for some Christmas decorations in the crafty barn, and we ended up getting home around 4pm. The auction in Raymond was interesting, they sold an anvil for $500! I had no idea they were worth that! We didn't stay for the M-ville auction, nothing there was remotely interesting. I heard later that they couldn't even sell the last couple of entire trailers for $1.

Sunday evening we went to see Over the Hedge...very cute. At one point I laughed so hard I think people in the theatre were a little disturbed, but there were only maybe 20 people in the audience.

Last night we hit the auction in Glenarm, and left after Carl bought a sled, an edger and some glassware.

My "to do" list for tonight grows by the minute. Bleh.

BTW, Albert is recuperating in the q-tank still. I checked him out last night and he appears to be doing rather well. I think I'm going to keep him in hospital for another week or so just to make sure, and then he can go back to the display. I'm taking this opportunity to do some major cleanup in the display tank. Might as well do a little rockscaping as well, while I'm at it. One night this week I need to run down to Ray's and pick up some more live rock. I think I could use another 10 pounds or so.

I hope everyone's week goes as quietly as I want mine to. :P
